This rug was handwoven by one of the artisans in Keltouma's association.

Keltouma resides in a village just outside of Beni M'rirt which is located within the Middle Atlas Mountains. She's the leader of a 20 women, one of which is pictured.
Similar to the Beni Ourain weave, Azilal rugs tend to have undyed sheep’s wool for its base and vibrant colors used for the design elements. While the weave is less dense than the Beni Ourain it’s still as plush as it looks.

The Hanbel border coupled with the hand-knot design elements gives this Azilal rug dimensional beauty.

Keltouma and the Artisans of M’rirt

Keltouma and her daughter Soukina lead this group of 25 artisans from a Village just outside Beni M’rirt, in the Middle Atlas Mountains. Founded in the early 2000s, the collective makes medium to high hand-knot rugs, a style named after the region as well as M’rirt Zanafi rugs, their interpretation of the Zanafi style from the southeast.

Traditional rugs from this region use a thick knotting technique, which makes the rugs feel extra plush.
